To commemorate its 28th anniversary on 27th August 2020, as well as to recognise World Day against the Trafficking in Persons this past 30th of July, Soroptimist International of Jakarta hosted a webinar on the topic: The Trafficking of Women & Girls in Indonesia: Awareness, Advocacy, and Action.
To provide deeper insights into the issue, the session featured two distinguished Indonesian speakers who have been advocates for the abolition of human trafficking. This they have been carrying out in Indonesia, through their respective organisations
The first speaker was Satyawanti Mashudi, one of the commissioners of Komnas Perempuan (National Commission on Violence Against Women) who provided an overview of the situation in Indonesia. In her presentation, Satyawanti provided the latest statistics on human trafficking in Indonesia, as well as the Indonesian government’s efforts to tackle the issue.
The second speaker was Sr. Chatarina Supatmiyati RGS, who explained about her work as the Chairperson of Talitha Kum Indonesia. The latter is a global organization of networks, operating in many different ways, each promoting initiatives against trafficking in persons.
