about SI Jakarta
Soroptimist International of Jakarta (SIJ) Charter was founded on August 27th, 1992. At that time, there were 22 founding members, with well-known Indonesian entrepreneur, Prof. Dr. Martha Tilaar, as the Founding President. Until this day, we are very fortunate to have Ibu Martha and Ibu Isla Winarto from the founding members who are still active in the club.
Carrying out Soroptimist International's mission, which is to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls, SI Jakarta has supported many projects over the years. Its first project was implemented in 1992 when its members provided financial support to a kindergarten for disadvantaged children in Jakarta.
One of SIJ’s most notable projects was the Rebuilding of Lamreh Village Project in Aceh (2005-2007), where the members raised US$1.7 million to build 200 houses, public facilities, a primary school and kindergarten, a clinic, a women's center, community hall, as well as a library with more than 1000 books.
SIJ’s most recent project is currently being implemented in Rembitan Village, Lombok, where it is providing water, toilets, and women empowerment programs through weaving, basic literacy classes, and various other vocational programs. In 2022, SIJ hopes to focus more on the issue of child brides in the area, through community awareness programs and youth discussions.
SI Jakarta is a small club with lots of fire and passion. We have partnered over the years with Yayasan Goodwill, IBEKA, Titian Foundation, and many more.
