SI Australia Visit

SI Indonesia Welcomes SI Canberra and SI Townsville Breakwater

We were honored to welcome sisters from SI Canberra and SI Townsville Breakwater following the SISEAP Conference of Clubs (CoC) 2026 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Three dedicated representatives—Ibu Lorna Mead, Ibu Catherine Evans, and Ibu Astrida Upitis—took the time to visit us in Jakarta and connect with our three clubs: SI Jakarta, SI Kemang, and SI Kebayoran Baru. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bonds of sisterhood that unite volunteers across the globe.

Day 1

•⁠ ⁠A Visit to SI Jakarta Project:

We began with a visit to Pusaka 10 in Cikini, where the club supports a feeding program for the elderly. Around 40 senior citizens gather each morning at Yayasan Mihdatul Ulama with their tiffin boxes. The Pusaka kitchen provides rice, two protein sources, and vegetables to sustain them through the day. Beyond nutrition, the program empowers them to socialize, pray, and play. Their warmth and stories truly moved us.

•⁠ ⁠Engagement with Government:

The delegation met with Dr. Suharti Sutar as the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) at her office to explore how Soroptimist clubs can support programs for Indonesian students and women. It was an excellent opportunity to learn about the nation’s progress and discuss potential partnerships.

Day 2

•⁠ ⁠A Visit to SI Kemang Project:

We traveled to SMPN 258 in Cibubur, where SI Kemang has established an English club for female students through the English Learning Room. The girls were thrilled to practice their English, ask questions, and share their dreams and motivations with our guests. Their enthusiasm was inspiring.

Day 3

•⁠ ⁠Debriefing Session:

SI Indonesia Clubs shared recent updates, and our Australian sisters reflected on key takeaways from the SISEAP CoC. We also had the chance to discuss SI Kebayoran Baru’s ongoing project in Papua. A special highlight was welcoming Ms. Gita Kamanth, Deputy Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, who joined the session.

The week concluded with a shared commitment to future collaboration. We are deeply grateful for the exchange of ideas and the renewed energy it brought to our work.
